The front main winch mechanism has the following three advantages: firstly, there is no need to install the main winch mechanism on the turning platform of the vehicle, which reduces the workload of chassis modification; Secondly, it can make the rotary drilling rig with self-made chassis more compact and reasonable in the layout of the rotary platform, thereby reducing the area of the rotary platform and making the operation of the rotary drilling rig more agile and convenient; The third reason is that the lifting force of the main winch mechanism only generates positive pressure on the mast, without causing any bending moment on the mast, thus making the force on the mast more reasonable.
The main disadvantage of the front main winch mechanism is that the drum can only be wound with multiple layers of steel wire rope, which can easily cause skipping, tangled, and biting of the steel wire rope, and shorten the service life of the steel wire rope

The layout of the central main winch mechanism is often used for medium and large rotary drilling rigs with dedicated chassis. The drum is mostly a single-layer or double-layer winding rope. Mostly driven by dual hydraulic motors and dual reducers, there are also a few driven by dual hydraulic motors and single reducers.
The central main winch mechanism has the following four advantages: firstly, it can install a drum with a larger diameter and a single-layer winding rope, thereby avoiding the disadvantages of wire rope skipping and disorderly rope, and improving the service life of wire rope; Secondly, the main hoisting mechanism is located near the center of the slewing support. When the main hoisting mechanism is lifted or lowered, the bending moment applied to the slewing support and the main beam of the slewing platform is relatively small; Thirdly, the steel wire rope has a smaller wrap angle for the guiding pulley at the back of the mast, resulting in less wear on the pulley; The fourth reason is that the lifting force of the main winch mechanism exerts a relatively small bending moment on the mast.
The disadvantage of the central installation of the main winch mechanism is that it can only use self-made or customized special chassis, the rotating platform area is large, and the installation and maintenance of the main winch mechanism are inconvenient.
The layout of the rear main winch mechanism is mostly used for large rotary drilling rigs that are modified using excavator chassis. It often uses a single-layer rope winding drum and is driven by dual hydraulic motors and dual reducers, with a few also using dual hydraulic motors and single reducers.
The rear main winch mechanism has the following three advantages: firstly, it can adopt the excavator chassis, without the need to design a dedicated chassis separately; Secondly, a single-layer winding drum can be used to avoid phenomena such as wire rope skipping and tangled ropes, thereby improving the service life of the wire rope; The third is that the main hoisting mechanism is arranged before the counterweight, which is equivalent to adding a part of the counterweight, thereby improving the stability of the rotary drilling rig.
There are four disadvantages of the rear main winch mechanism: firstly, compared with the front main winch mechanism, the rear main winch mechanism requires a larger amount of modification work for the excavator chassis; The second reason is that the steel wire rope has a larger wrap angle for the guiding pulley at the back of the mast, resulting in greater wear and tear between the steel wire rope and the pulley, and a shorter service life for the steel wire rope. Thirdly, when the steel wire rope passes around the back pulley for lifting and lowering, the mast bears a relatively large bending moment. The fourth issue is that the rear installation of the main hoisting mechanism will generate a significant overturning moment on the slewing support and a large alternating load on the main beam of the slewing platform, which can easily cause fatigue damage to the main beam of the slewing platform.
